Exciting News: Rome’s Metro A Line Upgrade Underway
Get ready for some changes! Rome will be closing one half of its Metro A subway line next month, from Termini to Battistini, for essential maintenance work to prepare for the upcoming Vatican’s Jubilee Year 2025.
The closure period is set from 10 to 25 August, during which extra buses will be running along the metro route to ensure seamless transportation for passengers.
In a recent statement, the city announced that Rome’s public transport provider, ATAC, is undertaking this project in August to minimize disruption, as the demand for metro services drops significantly during this period. The maintenance works require a full closure, as they are deemed too complex for regular evening closures.
Currently, the Metro A line closes early for maintenance purposes, shutting down at 21:00 from Sunday to Thursday and operating with extra buses after this time. On Fridays and Saturdays, the metro remains open until 01:30.
While the Termini-Anagnina section of the Metro A line will remain operational, the Furio Camillo station will be temporarily closed for renovations from 19 August to 7 November in preparation for the Jubilee Year.
Additionally, two other central stations, Ottaviano near the Vatican and Spagna at the Spanish Steps, are undergoing restyling works. Ottaviano will reopen on 9 September, while Spagna is expected to resume operations on 3 October.
