Pope Francis Appoints Dr. Concetta Brescia Morra to Vatican Supervisory Council
Exciting news from the Vatican as Pope Francis appoints Dr. Concetta Brescia Morra, an esteemed economics expert, to the Council of the Vatican’s Supervisory and Financial Information Authority (ASIF). Dr. Morra will be taking over from Dr. Antonella Sciarrone Alibrandi, who has been appointed as a judge of the Italian Constitutional Court.
The ASIF was established in 2010 by Benedict XVI with the goal of promoting financial transparency and combatting money laundering and terrorism financing. The authority has been making significant strides in aligning with international standards to achieve these objectives.
Dr. Concetta Brescia Morra brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role. As a full professor of Economic Law at the University of Rome Tre, she specializes in Banking and Financial Markets Law and EU Financial Law. She also serves as the Director of the Interdepartmental Research Center on European Banking and Financial Law.
With a background in academia and professional experience at the Bank of Italy, Dr. Brescia Morra is a prolific author and researcher, contributing to major national and international publications. Her expertise has led her to consult for the European Parliament on banking resolution issues and participate in the Banking Stakeholders Group of the European Banking Authority (EBA).
Notably, Dr. Brescia Morra has also served as Vice President and President of the Administrative Board of Review (ABoR) of the European Central Bank (ECB), overseeing the legitimacy of ECB decisions on banking supervision.
We look forward to seeing the valuable contributions Dr. Concetta Brescia Morra will bring to the ASIF Council and the continued efforts towards financial transparency and security in the Vatican and beyond.
