Initially hailed as a hero, Zelenskyy humbly redirected the praise to the brave soldiers fighting on the frontlines against Russia’s invasion. At the NATO summit, he emphasized the urgency of taking action before the U.S. presidential election in November to push back against Russia’s aggression. “It’s time to step out of the shadows, make bold decisions, and act promptly. We cannot afford to wait until November or any other month. We must stand strong and united,” Zelenskyy declared.
In Kyiv, injured children and infants were rescued while rescue teams continued to search for survivors beneath the debris of the devastated children’s hospital.
The strike on the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, part of a heavy bombardment on Kyiv, resulted in a significant loss of life and drew condemnation worldwide. The hospital, which was a ten-story building caring for over 600 patients, was severely damaged by the attack.
Despite Russia denying any involvement, evidence suggests a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile was responsible for the strike. United Nations investigators are gathering evidence for potential war crimes charges as hospitals are protected under international law. Pope Francis has also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event.
