Sr. Helen Kasaka, LSMI – Nairobi.
ACWECA serves as the umbrella body for Catholic consecrated religious sisters in ten countries of the Eastern and Central Africa region, including Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and more. It plays a crucial role in fostering unity and collaboration among women religious in these regions.
Exciting Fundraising Activities Underway
Sr. Bridgita Samba Mwawasi, the Secretary General of ACWECA, has confirmed that preparations for the long-awaited 19th Plenary Assembly are in full swing. The event will be hosted at the prestigious Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe, promising a memorable experience for all attendees.
According to Sr. Mwawasi, fundraising efforts are ongoing to ensure the success of the event. The Episcopal Conference of Malawi has granted permission for the religious women to conduct Sunday collections in parishes to support the event financially. Gratitude was expressed towards the Bishops and all donors who have generously contributed to the fundraising activities.
“While we appreciate the support received so far, we urge all Catholics and well-wishers to continue offering financial assistance as we strive to meet our budget requirements,” Sr. Mwawasi emphasized.
Revitalizing Consecrated Life
The Plenary Assembly in Malawi is expected to draw around 200 delegates, including the ACWECA executive board, staff, and council of delegates with voting rights. Observers from the International Union of Superiors Generals and other external partners are also anticipated to attend the Assembly.
The theme for this year’s event is “Transformative holistic formation for authentic living towards a deeper evangelization in the ACWECA region and beyond,” setting the tone for insightful discussions and celebrations during the Golden Jubilee. Topics on the agenda include revitalizing consecrated life, religious identity, holistic religious formation, mental health, and self-care within religious congregations.
Join us in Malawi for this momentous occasion as we celebrate the rich heritage and contributions of ACWECA in Eastern and Central Africa. Stay tuned for more updates as we count down to the golden celebrations!
