The Global Impact of Religious Formation Training in Rome
Approximately 50 sisters from 39 congregations across 29 countries have recently completed a six-month formation training in Rome. This unique program, organized by the International Union of Superiors General (UISG), aims to provide a holistic approach to religious formation in the 21st century.
Speaking on behalf of the UISG, Sister Shalini Mulackal, PBVM, highlighted the importance of preparing religious sisters for the vital ministry of formation. The training program, conducted in English, covers a wide range of topics essential for those who will be guiding women in their initial stages of formation.
The course delves into various aspects of religious life, including the fundamentals of formation ministry, the context of consecrated life, the meaning of vows, intercultural living, and leadership skills. Participants also explore creative forms of self-discovery, discernment, and global issues in the religious community.
According to Sister Mulackal, the goal of the program is to foster an inner transformation within each sister, preparing them to be compassionate guides for those under their care. Participants have praised the program for its emphasis on group work, personal reflection, and mentorship, culminating in a ceremony themed “In Gratitude we Go Forth as Graced Companions.”
