Welcome to our blog, where we highlight important issues and events shaping our world. Recently, the Sudan Catholic Bishops‘ Conference (SCBC) released a statement addressing the alarming level of violence and hatred tearing Sudanese society apart.
The Catholic Bishops of Sudan cannot turn a blind eye to the atrocities occurring in their country since the outbreak of war in April 2023. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has resulted in devastating consequences, with estimates of at least 15,500 lives lost and over 25 million people in need of humanitarian aid.
In their statement, the bishops call for an end to the war, the delivery of essential aid, advocacy for peace, and preparations for post-conflict recovery and healing. They express deep concern for the lack of progress in peace negotiations and the growing animosity among different ethnic groups within Sudan.
The bishops also express gratitude to Pope Francis for his continuous appeals for peace in Sudan and neighboring countries. They condemn the continued violence against civilians and call for accountability for the atrocities committed by all parties involved in the conflict.
It is clear from the bishops’ statement that urgent action is needed to address the humanitarian crisis and restore peace in Sudan. We echo their plea for dialogue and peace negotiations to bring hope and healing to the suffering people of Sudan.
