Hunter Biden has filed a lawsuit against Fox News for airing nude images of him in a miniseries that the son of US President Joe Biden claims constitutes “revenge porn”.
‘The Trial of Hunter Biden’ consisted of six episodes released in 2022 on Fox Nation, the online platform of the conservative broadcaster owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s family. A dramatized version of a criminal trial, the series included a disclaimer that the proceedings were fictional depicting the first son being prosecuted for corruption, allegations that have been pushed for years by Donald Trump supporters pointing to Hunter’s past business ties with Ukraine and China. The accusations have never led to legal actions.
However, the series features real images of Biden, “depicting him nude and engaged in sexual acts,” according to the lawsuit.
“Fox aired and disseminated these intimate images to its vast audience of millions as part of an entertainment program in order to embarrass, harass, annoy, and alarm Mr. Biden and tarnish his reputation,” the court filing reads. The images came from a laptop that Hunter Biden had left at a computer repair shop but never retrieved.
“This entirely politically motivated lawsuit is without merit,” Fox News stated in a release. “Mr. Biden did not complain until sending a letter at the end of April 2024. The program was removed shortly after, with great caution. Consistent with the First Amendment, Fox News has accurately covered noteworthy events caused by Mr. Biden himself, and we look forward to defending our rights in court.”
Hunter was convicted by a jury in June for illegal possession of a firearm, in a federal trial that once again shed light on his years of alcohol, cocaine, and crack addiction, evident in many of the images found on the laptop. In September, he will face a separate case of tax fraud, a trial that will likely distract him from his father’s presidential campaign.
