Exciting Updates: Rome’s Tram Network Transformation for Jubilee 2025
Big changes are on the horizon for Rome’s public transportation system as work begins on the Porta Maggiore tram depot in preparation for Jubilee 2025.
The city is gearing up to replace its network of trams with buses in order to facilitate the redevelopment of the depot. Starting from Monday, July 1st, various tram lines will be affected by this transition.
This move is a crucial part of Rome’s preparation for the upcoming Vatican Jubilee Year in 2025, following extensive improvements to tram tracks and infrastructure throughout the city.
The overhaul of the Porta Maggiore depot is aimed at accommodating the new 33-metre trams, with construction scheduled to wrap up by December of this year.
During the construction period, several tram lines will be completely or partially replaced by buses. From mid-September to early November, the entire tram network will be serviced by buses.
Here’s a breakdown of the detailed timetable for the works affecting tram lines:
City Councilor for Mobility, Eugenio Patanè, emphasized the importance of these works in restoring public transport to its full efficiency. Patanè stated that the completion of the project will allow the entire tram network to resume normal service by December 2nd.
