The Apostolic Nuncio to Paraguay has united with the global community in denouncing and condemning the failed coup in Bolivia, emphasizing the need for fair and inclusive development for all.
During the 54th ordinary session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Asunción, Archbishop Vincenzo Turturro spoke out against the attempted coup, highlighting the socio-economic disparities and poverty prevalent in Bolivia and the wider region. He stressed the necessity for comprehensive and sustainable development to address the underlying inequalities.
Prioritizing Equitable Development
With a third of the population living in poverty, Archbishop Turturro underscored the importance of prioritizing the integral development of every individual, especially the marginalized and vulnerable. He emphasized the critical role of responsible actions in fostering a more just and equitable society.
Rejecting the notion that inequity is unavoidable, he called for collective efforts and solidarity to address the diverse regional challenges through sustainable agreements that serve the interests of the entire community.
Caring for Migrants and Refugees
In addition, Archbishop Turturro addressed the plight of migrants and refugees in the region, advocating for solutions that tackle both the root causes of mass migrations and the needs of host communities.
