By Antonella Palermo
Every year, Peter’s Pence releases its annual disclosure report, showing the generosity of donors and the impact of their contributions. In the financial year 2023, donations increased by nearly five million euros compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 52 million euros.
USA Leads in Giving
Donations to the Peter’s Pence Fund come from various sources, including church collections, direct offerings, and bequests. In 2023, dioceses contributed the majority of the income at 64.4%, with the United States being the largest benefactor, contributing 28.1% of the total income.
Supporting Global Initiatives
The funds raised by Peter’s Pence are used to support various projects and initiatives around the world. In 2023, the Fund disbursed a total of 103 million euros, with 90 million supporting activities of the Holy See and 13 million going towards projects for those most in need. A total of 236 projects in 76 countries were funded, with a focus on assisting families, migrants, refugees, and communities affected by war and famine.
Growth and Impact
While the donations in 2022 were higher due to a capital gain from real estate assets, the increase in donations in 2023 shows continued support for the Pope’s apostolic mission. The report highlights the impact of the funds in supporting various initiatives and projects worldwide, making a difference in the lives of those in need.
