As the Missionaries of the Divine Word (SVD) convene for their General Chapter, gearing up to commemorate the 150th anniversary of their congregation in 2025, Pope Francis offered his guidance and wisdom to the assembly.
Embracing The Light Within
Under the theme, “Your Light Must Shine Before Others (Mt 5:16): Faithful and Creative Disciples in a Wounded World,” Pope Francis emphasized the essence of their charism and mission of spreading the message of Jesus’ salvation, following in His footsteps, and embodying His teachings.
Love, Forgiveness, and Mission
Reflecting on the theme, the Pope stressed the importance of experiencing the love of the Trinity and nurturing the flame of the Spirit in their journey as missionary disciples. He emphasized the role of forgiveness and the transformative power of faith in their lives.
Pope Francis highlighted that their creativity in mission stems from the Word and the Spirit, making them vessels of Christ’s love and agents of His grace.
Become Agents of Peace and Hope
Addressing the challenges faced by Verbites in a world rife with conflict and uncertainty, the Pope called for them to be peacemakers and bringers of hope to all cultures. He urged them to be mindful of the impact of the digital age on values and lifestyles, emphasizing the need for discernment.
Embrace Synodality and Discernment
Pope Francis encouraged the Verbites to embrace a synodal approach within the Church, listening to all voices and discerning the Spirit’s guidance. He emphasized the importance of being attuned to the Spirit’s movements and following in the footsteps of Saint Arnold Janssen, the founder of their congregation.
As the Verbites embark on this path of faith and service, Pope Francis’s words serve as a guiding light, propelling them towards a future filled with hope, love, and transformative mission.
