Recently, in several Latin American countries and even in the US, we celebrated Father’s Day in the middle of June. On this occasion, I wanted to share with you the most precious gift that my wife and three daughters, aged 21, 18, and 14, gave me.
In some of my previous articles, I mentioned that my family and I have been living in Buenos Aires, Argentina for over two years now. We made the move from Lima, Peru, along with all our pets, including Brisa, our beloved Golden Retriever puppy.
It was a significant change for each member of our family…
- My wife took on a new job role in an American company, leading a team in a different culture and frequently traveling to other countries for work.
- Each of my daughters had to adjust to a new chapter in their lives, whether it was university, high school, or finishing primary school.
- As for me, I had to adapt to a new routine, taking care of household responsibilities and spending more time with my girls.
Despite the challenges that came with this change, we persevered through the ups and downs. Looking back, I am certain that moving to Argentina was the best decision my wife, Jessica, and I made.
Now, you might be wondering how all of this ties into the best Father’s Day gift I received from my daughters. It was the heartfelt expressions of love and appreciation they shared at their current ages…
- The daily journey to and from the university, initially by bus and later by car.
- Attending school events together.
- Learning to value household chores and helping out more willingly.
- Being there through tough times like illnesses or heartbreaks.
- And the most touching moment was when Jessica told me, “today I admire you and I want more, you have changed for the better.”
For me, it reaffirmed the belief that things happen not just by chance but for a reason. I strive every day to be a better person, setting an example for my family that God has entrusted to me. While there is still much room for improvement, I am grateful for the progress I have made with their support.
Here are some practices that have helped me along this journey:
Daily Mass: I start my day by listening to Mass online from Lima on weekdays and attend in person on Sundays.
Reading: I dedicate at least 20 minutes every day to reading, exploring Peruvian and Argentine history, the lives of saints, and self-improvement books.
Exercise: I make time to run around the racecourse near our home two to three times a week.
Continuous Learning: I attend courses related to personal leadership and stay updated on business trends.
Entrepreneurship: Working on a startup with my brothers in Lima, utilizing augmented reality and artificial intelligence for marketing products.
I wanted to share this personal experience with you and encourage you to reflect on your own journey of personal growth and leadership. Whether you are single or with a family, always strive to move forward and embrace change.
To conclude, I leave you with a few reflections:
- A quote from Thomas More to his daughter, reminding us that everything happens for a reason.
- Lines from a song emphasizing the importance of relying on God in challenging times.
Let’s keep moving forward against the tide!
