In a poignant display of solidarity with those affected by war, Pope Francis met with Ukrainian wives and mothers following today’s General Audience in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday morning.
During the Audience, Pope Francis issued a plea for peace amidst the ongoing conflicts, with a special mention of the war in Ukraine, as the world prepares to mark the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul on 29th June.
“On Saturday,” Pope Francis declared, “we will celebrate the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Patrons of Rome.”
He went on to say, “To their intercession, let us entrust the peoples suffering from war: the tormented Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, and Myanmar, so that they may soon find peace.”
Additionally, Pope Francis urged all believers to follow in the footsteps of the Saints as “missionary disciples” who spread the message of the Gospel throughout the world.
