The Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, has embarked on a five-day journey to Lebanon, as announced on the Vatican Secretariat of State’s social platform ‘X.’ He will be visiting humanitarian structures of the Sovereign Order of Malta, meeting authorities, Church representatives, and engaging in various activities during his visit.
Day one of Cardinal Parolin’s visit involved meetings with authorities, the Maronite Patriarchate, the local Church, and religious leaders. Tomorrow, on the Solemnity of St. John the Baptist, he will celebrate Mass in the presence of the Order of Malta’s Ambassador to Lebanon and State officials.
Throughout his visit, Cardinal Parolin will visit humanitarian centers run by the Order of Malta’s Lebanese Association and participate in charitable activities before departing on June 27.
Seeking Solutions in a Crisis
Cardinal Parolin expressed his commitment to finding an institutional solution to the crisis in Lebanon by engaging with the local Order of Malta, whose impactful works are essential in the country’s time of need. The Holy See’s diplomacy aims to support and help find solutions in the face of the current crisis.
Order of Malta’s Vital Role
For over 70 years, the Order of Malta has been at the forefront, providing healthcare and social support services to the Lebanese population. With a focus on ‘agro-humanitarian’ projects since 2020, the Order aims to ensure food security, promote economic recovery, and support vulnerable groups in Lebanon. Their efforts cover a significant portion of the country’s territory and aim to expand further to address the economic crisis and growing insecurity.
