Welcome to the new era of Catholic sisters in Kenya! In a groundbreaking initiative, the Catholic sisters in Kenya, under the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK), have launched the Communication Network for Catholic Sisters (CNCS). This network is a platform designed to empower Catholic sisters through modern social communication, with a vision to evangelize through stories of social transformation.
The Director of CNCS, Sr. Michelle Njeri OSF, expressed her excitement about the launch, highlighting the network’s goal to provide a unified communication channel for religious sisters from different congregations. She emphasized the importance of enhancing their capacity for evangelization through media, fostering connection and collaboration among the sisters.
Social Media Security and AI Training
During the launch event, professional sisters’ communicators were trained in various aspects of communication to equip them with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age. Sessions on social media security, protection, and cyberbullying were led by renowned expert Mr. Kennedy Kachwanya. The importance of responding to challenges on social platforms with grace and an evangelistic spirit was emphasized.
Additionally, training on Artificial Intelligence (AI) was conducted to empower the sisters with knowledge on leveraging AI for more effective evangelism and storytelling. Br. Elias Mokua SJ highlighted the transformative potential of AI in communication, encouraging the sisters to use it to recreate their way of thinking and move forward.
Stories That Need to Be Told
Representatives from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, along with other distinguished guests, were present at the launch event. Sr. Jane Wakahiu shared her excitement and gratitude for the realization of the network, emphasizing the importance of sharing stories of hope, love, and courage with tenderness and care.
The CNCS, funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, aims to enable sisters to share their stories with precision and authenticity, strengthening their evangelistic efforts and advocacy for the voiceless. Sr. Kangogo reiterated the critical role of communication in society, highlighting the importance of providing the right and credible information.
Impacting Society Through Media
The mission of CNCS is to promote the apostolate of Catholic sisters through media visibility for evangelization and social transformation. The network’s core values of prayer, integrity, accountability, respect, diversity, networking, and partnership will guide its operations. Sr. Njeri reiterated the vision of CNCS to be a dynamic network of empowered Catholic sisters evangelizing through stories of social transformation.
As the Catholic sisters in Kenya embrace this new platform, they are poised to share their profound stories and messages with a wider audience, fostering greater understanding and compassion in society. This marks a new era for Catholic sisters in Kenya as they continue to be a beacon of light and transformation in the digital age.
