Pope Francis Calls for Action to Stop Violence in DRC
As the world continues to be plagued by conflict and violence, Pope Francis has made a heartfelt plea for authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to take immediate action to protect civilians in the eastern part of the country. Speaking after the Angelus prayer, the Pope urged both national and international communities to do everything in their power to halt the ongoing violence that has been devastating the region.
With numerous attacks and massacres occurring in recent weeks, the Pope emphasized the importance of safeguarding the lives of civilians, many of whom are Christians. Describing the victims as martyrs, he called their sacrifice a seed that teaches us to bear witness to the Gospel with courage and consistency.
The Devastating Attacks in North Kivu
In a series of attacks on villages in Beni territory, up to 80 people were reported killed by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. These attacks left communities in turmoil, with residents fleeing their homes to seek refuge elsewhere. The violence in the region has led to a significant loss of life and destruction, with the General Reference Hospital in Mabalako overwhelmed by the influx of patients.
Despite the ongoing challenges, Pope Francis remains steadfast in his call for peace and unity. He urged individuals to continue praying for areas affected by conflict, including Ukraine, the Holy Land, Sudan, Myanmar, and any other regions where people are suffering from the ravages of war.
Let us join together in solidarity, offering our prayers and support to those in need, as we strive for a more peaceful and harmonious world for all.
