President Meloni’s Introduction
Thank you all for being here. I apologize for the slight delay; it has been a busy morning.
It is a great pleasure to share with you the final assessment of the G7 Leaders Summit under Italian Presidency.
First and foremost, I must express my gratitude for the honor of presiding over this Summit on behalf of Italy throughout 2024.
I would like to begin by extending my thanks to the dedicated team that efficiently organized this highly complex event.
I also want to acknowledge those who handled the intricate diplomatic negotiations, led by Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni and her team. These negotiations were challenging but crucial.
A special mention of gratitude goes to my Diplomatic Advisor, Ambassador Fabrizio Saggio, and all those who ensured that a tightly packed program with numerous delegations, especially our extensive outreach efforts, ran smoothly without a hitch.
I must thank all the Italian State administrations and officials at every level who contributed to the success of this initiative; it was undeniably a success.
A heartfelt thank you to the police and armed forces for ensuring maximum security throughout the event.
I would also like to express my gratitude to all the journalists and media professionals. Your coverage and reporting during these days were invaluable to us.
I am grateful to the people of Puglia and the local authorities for their exceptional hospitality. I hope that through this Summit, this magnificent land will receive even more global recognition, appreciation, and love.
Overall, this was a great team effort that reflects credit upon Italy as a whole. Italy has once again demonstrated its ability to rise to the occasion and organize events of extraordinary significance. It should be a source of pride for the Italian people.
The Leaders’ Summit concluded yesterday with the formal adoption of a final Declaration that had been defined the day before. I emphasize this point because such occurrences are rare, underscoring the unity of purpose within the G7.
The final Declaration is a comprehensive and significant document containing commitments on numerous global challenges that we must address in these challenging times. These are tangible commitments that address pressing issues for our present and future, reinforcing our solidarity in the face of these challenges.
Therefore, I extend my thanks to all my colleagues – Joe, Emmanuel, Rishi, Olaf, Justin, Fumio, Ursula, and Charles – as well as their teams and sherpas, for their positive and fundamental contributions to the success of this Summit.
I also express gratitude to the many Leaders of Nations and International Organizations who participated in yesterday’s Outreach Session, one of the most extensive and representative ever held, enriching the significance of this Summit even further.
And the blog goes on to discuss the content of the G7 Summit in detail, emphasizing key issues and outcomes, showcasing Italy’s leadership and commitment on global challenges like the conflict in Ukraine, climate change, migration, and artificial intelligence.
The blog conveys a sense of accomplishment, highlighting the successful collaboration with other G7 members and international leaders, underscoring the importance of partnerships and collaboration in addressing global issues. President Meloni’s pride in Italy’s role as the host country and the achievements of the Summit shines through the narrative, showcasing strong leadership and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world stage.
