Officials in the US fear that tensions between Israel and Hezbollah could escalate into a full-scale war, with concerns rising over the increasing frequency of rocket launches from Lebanon that could “provoke unwanted consequences leading to an event for which Israel would feel compelled to respond.”
Haaretz reports that US officials are particularly worried that recent Israeli attacks in Lebanon are “setting the stage for a sweeping assault” by the Israeli military.
According to US officials, IDF troops in the north are “training in brigade-sized units, but are not yet able to initiate an assault.” The report also states that American strategic advisor Amos Hochstein is traveling to Israel to try to ease the situation.
Israel’s Targeted Attack in Southern Lebanon
An Hezbollah agent was killed in an attack on a motorcycle by an Israeli drone near Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, as announced by the Israeli Defense Forces IDF. The news was reported by Lebanese media. According to local media reports, another person was injured in the attack.
Just hours earlier, Lebanese media had reported an Israeli drone strike on a motorcycle between the cities of Bint Jbiel and Aitaroun in the southern region.
New Airstrike Against a Hezbollah Facility
Furthermore, the IDF revealed today that fighter jets attacked a Hezbollah military structure in the Kafr Kela area in southern Lebanon. This was reported by Israeli media.
This morning, alarms were sounded in the Upper Galilee for the launch of two missiles from Lebanon. The rockets landed in the Meron area with no casualties reported, as per Haaretz.
