Welcome to the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Duc in Altum and the Magdala Archaeological Park! A decade ago, this incredible site opened its doors as a place of meeting and prayer.
During the anniversary mass, Father Juan Solana, LC, director and founder of the Magdala Project, fondly recalled the inauguration and dedication of this sanctuary. He emphasized the profound impact Duc in Altum has had on the lives of pilgrims who visit, stating, “This place has witnessed healed hearts, received vocations to priestly and religious life, and restored dignity to many souls.”
Magdala has not only been a place of pilgrimage but also a center of welcome and service. Over the past 10 years, Duc in Altum has welcomed more than 1.3 million pilgrims and hosted over 12,000 masses, weddings, baptisms, and confirmations.
Father Juan Solana expressed his deep gratitude to all those who have contributed to this project, highlighting the collaboration of volunteers, benefactors, friends, artists, and architects. He emphasized, “Nothing would have been achieved without the generous and professional participation of many people.” Magdala now stands as one of the top 10 tourist attractions in the Middle East.
One of the cornerstones of Magdala is its volunteer program, forming a community around the service of pilgrims and guests. More than 4,500 volunteers from over 35 countries have had a transformative experience at this sanctuary.
Father Juan Solana, LC., also invited everyone to the upcoming Youthfest Encounter Magdala 2024 in Puebla, Mexico, from July 25 to 28. This event promises to be a time of prayer, community, and celebration in preparation for the 2033 celebration of the two thousand years of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ.
In conclusion, Father Solana encouraged attendees to renew their commitment to service and be channels of divine grace. “May this place continue to be a source of living water, flowing with grace,” he stated, expressing hope that Duc in Altum will continue to inspire faith and commitment in all who visit.
