Welcome to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation’s Catholic Sisters Initiative Convention in Zambia, where over 100 religious sisters from more than 15 countries gathered to explore impact, learning, and collaboration in the service of the common good.
Imagine a space where Catholic sisters from around the world converge, united by a shared vision for creating positive change. That’s exactly what happened in Lusaka, Zambia, where sisters came together from May 29 to May 31 for an event organized by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation’s Catholic Sisters Initiative.
During the convention, these dedicated religious sisters delved into topics such as elevating the voices of the marginalized, embracing evidence-based approaches for community success, and transforming cultural practices for the greater good. At the heart of these discussions was the concept of synodality – a key theme that wove through the event.
One of the highlights of the convention was a panel discussion on synodality, where representatives from the Vatican engaged in a meaningful conversation about the mission and pastoral responsibilities of their Dicasteries. Dr. Paolo Ruffini, the Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, emphasized the vital role of sister communicators in offering a Christian perspective and telling stories with a redemptive angle.
Dr. Ruffini also shared insights into the Dicastery’s Pentecost Project, supported by the Hilton Foundation, which aims to build a global network of sisters’ voices in Vatican Media. The project provides a platform for sisters to enhance their communication skills through various opportunities, including online courses, webinars, and internships at Vatican News – Vatican Radio.
Throughout the convention, the importance of listening, collaborating, and embracing synodality was emphasized by various speakers, including Sr. Nathalie Becquart and Sr. Alessandra Smerilli. The discussion also touched on essential topics such as migration, with Sr. Smerilli highlighting the need for local Churches to engage with migration issues and provide proper pastoral care to migrants.
As we reflect on the powerful insights shared during the convention, we are reminded of the impactful work that religious sisters undertake every day. Keep an eye out for #SisterProject stories to discover more about the incredible contributions of these dedicated women.
And remember, when sisters from diverse backgrounds come together with a shared mission, incredible things happen. Stay tuned for more updates from the Catholic Sisters Initiative as we continue to work towards a brighter future for all.
