Save the Children’s biennial event, IMPOSSIBLE 2024, will take place on May 30 and 31 in Rome, aiming to put children and young people at the heart of global and national policies.
The theme of this edition is “Starting From Trust Again,” a valuable asset at risk. The two-day event will focus on the impact of poverty on the aspirations of young people in Italy and the potential of African youth as an engine for supporting a continent on the rise.
“There is no inherent impossibility in saving the children of the world. It is only impossible if we refuse to do so,” said Eglantyne Jebb, the founder of Save the Children, over a century ago. In line with her teachings, Save the Children has been fighting for the rights of children for over 100 years, organizing “IMPOSSIBLE 2024 – Building the Future of Children and Adolescents. Now” to bring together the best knowledge, resources, and energies from various sectors to invest in the most important asset we have – children and young people.
On the morning of May 30, the inaugural session will feature a keynote address by Save the Children’s President, Claudio Tesauro, along with contributions from Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Maria Teresa Bellucci, and journalist Marco Damilano.
Following that, there will be an in-depth discussion on “Child Poverty and Aspirations: A View on Italy,” presenting and discussing the results of a national study involving a representative sample of adolescents aged 15-16. This study will shed light on the impact of material poverty on educational and life paths and serve as a basis for promoting joint efforts to support the growth of children and adolescents in Italy.
On May 31, IMPOSSIBLE 2024 will continue with a session on “Shifting Perspectives, Unlocking Africa’s Youth Potential,” focusing on international cooperation with Africa and supporting the development of African youth.
The Workshops of IMPOSSIBLE 2024
As part of the two-day event, four thematic workshops will be held on May 30 at Save the Children’s headquarters in Rome, aimed at deepening discussions on key topics and creating new alliances to address challenges together.
The workshops will cover themes like promoting youth participation, the role of children in the media, open innovation for social impact, and the inclusion of migrant minors in Italy.
