Qatar Condemns Israeli Airstrike on Rafah, Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza
In a recent turn of events, Qatar has expressed concerns over the latest Israeli airstrike on Rafah, stating that it could potentially disrupt ongoing mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire and secure the release of hostages in Gaza.
Reports from Palestinian officials indicate that the airstrike resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 35 individuals, as flames ravaged tents at a camp housing displaced people in Rafah. The attack also left dozens injured, leading Palestinian authorities to brand it as a ‘massacre’.
According to WAFA, the Palestinian news agency, Israeli forces unleashed around eight rockets targeting a newly established camp that was already overflowing with thousands of displaced individuals. The Israeli military later confirmed carrying out a strike on a Hamas target in the area, although specific details surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Rafah is considered a key stronghold for Hamas, the ruling party in Gaza for the past seventeen years.
The airstrike followed shortly after the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ armed wing, launched a series of missiles from Rafah towards Tel Aviv, located in central Israel.
Amidst escalating tensions and violence, Qatar continues to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urges all parties involved to prioritize dialogue and negotiation to prevent further bloodshed in the region. The international community stands hopeful for a swift resolution to the conflict, bringing much-needed peace and stability to the troubled area.
