World Children’s Day Celebration with Pope Francis
On the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, at 10.30 this morning, the Vatican Basilica was alive with the joy of children as Pope Francis presided over the Holy Mass to celebrate the first “World Children’s Day” (GMB 2024).
After the Eucharistic Celebration, the Pope, joined by approximately 50 thousand children, faithful, and pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square, announced that the second World Children’s Day will be held in September 2026. The event was made even more special with a heartfelt testimony from Italian actor Roberto Benigni.
Homily of the Holy Father
During his off-the-cuff Homily, Pope Francis engaged with the children present, teaching them about the Holy Trinity. He explained God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, emphasizing the importance of seeking forgiveness and embracing faith.
He reminded the children that Jesus forgives all sins and urged them to have the humility to ask for forgiveness. The Pope also spoke about the Holy Spirit, the one who accompanies us in life, guiding us towards goodness and comforting us in times of difficulty.
“The Holy Spirit accompanies us through life,” the Pope reiterated, emphasizing the importance of faith and belief in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Special Blessing
As the Mass came to a close, Pope Francis reminded the children about their heavenly mother, Mary. He led them in a prayer to Our Lady and encouraged them to pray for peace, for the sick, and for their families.
Before bidding farewell, the Pope asked the children to remember the role of the Holy Spirit in their lives and led them in the prayer “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.” He also expressed his gratitude to those who organized the event and ended with a cheerful farewell to all.
