The Mystery of the Skeleton Unearthed in Rome
Construction work near the Vatican in Rome has revealed a startling discovery – a human skeleton. This macabre find was made at the Piazza Pia work site where workers are busy building an underpass in preparation for the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025.
The skeleton, which was found between Castel Sant’Angelo and Via della Conciliazione, has sparked intrigue and speculation. Authorities have removed the remains, and work on the underpass continues uninterrupted.
This construction project, set to be completed by December, will divert traffic underground to meet the existing Lungotevere in Sassia underpass, which was originally built for the Jubilee celebrations in 2000.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that human remains have been unearthed during construction work in Rome. In 2019, three skeletons – an adult male, an adult female, and a child – were discovered near the Piramide subway station. Archaeologists determined that these skeletons date back to the first century BC and were part of the ancient Necropolis Ostiense.
This latest discovery adds a layer of mystery to Rome’s rich history and reminds us of the profound stories buried beneath the bustling streets of this ancient city.
