Pope Francis Mourns the Passing of Professor Franco Anelli
It is with deep sorrow that Pope Francis expresses his condolences and prayers to all those affected by the passing of Professor Franco Anelli, the Rector of the Catholic University of Sacred Heart, who tragically died at the age of 60 in Milan.
In a heartfelt telegram sent on behalf of the Pope by Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Pope Francis acknowledged the tragic loss and extended his closeness to the late rector’s mother, relatives, as well as the entire university and foundation community.
The Pope recognized Professor Anelli’s dedication to promoting Christian values in the academic realm and fostering dialogue with younger generations. He entrusted the rector to divine mercy, offering comfort of faith and Christian hope to those mourning his passing, while also granting his Apostolic Blessing.
Cardinal Parolin, in addition to the Italian Episcopal Conference, has expressed his condolences and assured his prayers for all those affected by this heartbreaking loss. According to Italian police reports, the rector is believed to have jumped from the sixth floor of his residence.
