Welcome to the International Congress on Youth Ministry, a gathering organized by the Dicastery for the Laity, Family, and Life. This event is situated in Ciampino, near Rome, a key moment between World Youth Day in Lisbon 2023 and the upcoming WYD in Seoul in 2027.

Over 300 participants from 110 different countries have converged in Ciampino from May 23-25 to engage in discussions under the theme “For a synodal youth ministry: new leadership styles and strategies.”
Empowering the Youth for Renewal
Opening the Congress, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life, encouraged attendees to reflect on the past, present, and future – from WYD Lisbon 2023 to a renewed Church with young people as key agents of transformation.
Highlighting the document Christus vivit, Cardinal Farrell emphasized the need for a synodal approach in youth ministry, infused with openness to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
“It is precisely young people who can be the main agents of renewal so that the Church can ‘unblock’ itself and become young again,” he expressed.
In closing, Cardinal Farrell echoed Pope Francis’ words, urging young people to embrace life fully and not to shy away from its challenges.
Looking Ahead: WYD 2023, Youth Jubilee 2025, and WYD 2027
The Congress also featured insights from the organizers of three significant youth events: WYD Lisbon, Jubilee of Youth 2025, and WYD Seoul 2027.
Cardinal Américo Manuel Alves Aguiar, Bishop of Setúbal, Portugal, expressed gratitude for the successful organization of WYD Lisbon 2023, emphasizing its aim to unite young people worldwide in encountering Christ.
Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, introduced the Jubilee of Youth 2025 during the morning session, setting the stage for a time of reflection and spiritual rejuvenation within the Church.
The afternoon session focused on a presentation by the Local Organizing Committee (COL) of WYD Seoul 2027, offering a glimpse into the upcoming event led by Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taick.
The first day concluded with a solemn Mass presided over by Cardinal Aguiar, marking the beginning of dialogues and shared experiences among participants.
As the Congress progresses, attendees will partake in synodal discernment exercises, culminating in an audience with Pope Francis and an interactive session with Sr. Nathalie Becquart on the final day, May 25.
