Finding Faith Amidst Suffering in Gaza
During a recent pastoral visit to the Holy Family Catholic Parish in Gaza Strip, Cardinal Pizzaballa, along with a delegation including Fr. Gabriele Romanelli, witnessed the trials faced by the residents.
Despite the pain and suffering, the Cardinal noted a remarkable absence of anger or resentment among the community living within the walls of Gaza. He emphasized the importance of being present in times of crisis.
Pizzaballa’s trip marked the first humanitarian mission of the Latin Patriarchate and the Sovereign Order of Malta to deliver vital aid to Gaza since the outbreak of the conflict on October 7, 2023.
The Latin Patriarch reiterated his commitment to alleviating the suffering in Gaza and halting the cycle of violence that plagues the region.
Upcoming Visit From Cardinal Zuppi
Pizzaballa expressed gratitude to Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, president of the Italian Episcopal Conference, who plans to visit the Holy Land in June. He acknowledged the support and encouragement offered by Zuppi, urging continued prayers for the region.
“Pray for us and we will continue, as far as possible, despite everything, to pray and thank you.”
A Prayer Vigil for Peace
The Prayer Vigil for peace in the Holy Land commenced with the Italian bishops assembled at the Sant’Uffizio Palace, led by Cardinal Zuppi in invoking peace for the troubled region.
The procession continued into St. Peter’s Basilica, where prayers were offered for peace and reconciliation in the Holy Land. Cardinal Zuppi emphasized the importance of seeking peace and unity in the face of conflict.
The Prayer Vigil concluded with a fervent plea for peace in Hebrew and Arabic, uniting all in the common desire for reconciliation and harmony.
