The seismic swarm in the Campi Flegrei area has been causing quite a stir, with over 150 earthquakes occurring in a span of five hours. The initial quake with a magnitude of 3.5 was felt in Naples, followed by a stronger one at around 8:10 pm, measuring 4.4 in magnitude. This is the most intense quake in the past 40 years and the strongest since the reappearance of bradyseism. The previous record was set by a 4.2 magnitude quake on September 27th. Another significant tremor hit at 9:46 pm, followed by more seismic activity throughout the night.
In addition to the seismic events, a severe weather warning has been issued for several regions in Italy. Heavy rainfall is affecting Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trento, and Bolzano. Strong winds and lightning strikes are also expected in these areas. The president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, tragically passed away in a helicopter accident along with several others. His deputy, Mohammad Mago, will assume the presidency until the upcoming presidential elections on July 8th. The country is in mourning, and a national investigation has been launched into the incident.
Closer to home, a shocking incident unfolded on a cruise ship in Grosseto, where a Filipino woman was arrested for allegedly killing her newborn baby. The woman, who was part of the crew, had hidden her pregnancy from her colleagues. The tragic discovery was made by her roommates, leading to the woman’s arrest. On a different cruise ship, a school trip turned into a nightmare for a 19-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by three French men. Thanks to CCTV footage, the perpetrators were identified and arrested for their heinous crime.
