Greetings from the Vatican! Pope Francis extends his heartfelt condolences to Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, in the wake of the tragic deaths of President Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian.
It is with a heavy heart that Pope Francis sends a telegram expressing his sympathy for the untimely passing of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and all the victims of the helicopter crash that took place on 19th May.
In his message, the Holy Father entrusts the souls of the departed to the mercy of the Almighty and offers prayers for those who mourn their loss, particularly their families. He also conveys his spiritual closeness to the Iranian nation during this difficult time.
The telegram was addressed to Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, who has declared five days of mourning in honor of the deceased. President Raisi and his delegation tragically lost their lives in a helicopter accident in the mountainous region of northwestern Iran following a visit to Azerbaijan.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Iran as they navigate this period of mourning. May they find solace and strength in the face of this immense loss.
