Over 200 Talitha Kum delegates representing women and men religious, laity, young people, and survivors actively engaged in combating human trafficking will gather for Talitha Kum’s 2nd General Assembly in Rome. This Assembly coincides with the International Network of Consecrated Life Against Human Trafficking celebrating its 15th anniversary since its establishment under the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) in 2009. Delegates will convene at the Fraterna Domus in Sacrofano from 18-24 May 2024.
Since 1998, member congregations of UISG have been involved in ministering to victims of trafficking. The formation of a study group under the Commission for Justice and Peace in 2001 led to the creation of training materials translated into 11 languages. In 2009, Talitha Kum was officially established, uniting efforts of sisters globally to combat human trafficking. Reflecting on this journey, Sister Pat Murray notes the progress made yet acknowledges the ongoing challenge.
