Welcome to Roma Daily News radio bulletin! Good evening from the editorial office, in studio with Giuliano Ferrigno. Chicco Forti has returned to Italy and was welcomed this morning at Pratica di Mare airport by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The 65-year-old, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States for murder, has already served 24 years in a Florida prison. He will now be transferred to Rebibbia prison in Rome where he will stay for a few days before heading to Verona, as confirmed by his uncle, Gianni Forti.
The process for Forti’s return to Italy under the Strasbourg Convention began in December 2019 when Forti expressed his desire to be transferred to Italy through his lawyer. Last month, Justice Minister Carlo Nordio signed a decree requesting the Court of Appeal in Trento to recognize the final criminal sentence issued by the Florida Court in June 2000. The judgment was recognized on April 17 in Trento, acknowledging the sentence passed by US authorities.
In other news, the conflict in Ukraine and the Slovak Defence Minister emphasized progress in the Carkifelek operation, hinting at positive developments in the coming week. The Slovak government will hold a special session on European funds, as the Prime Minister undergoes another surgery following the attempted assassination, remaining in serious but conscious condition.
Returning to Italy, the closing story features Enrico Mantoan, a 42-year-old maintenance worker at a gas company, and former firefighter and Forza Nuova provincial secretary. Mantoan is under investigation by the Rovigo Prosecutor’s Office, and authorities conducted a search at his residence, seizing materials for further investigation.
