Over 400 artworks tell the literary genius of Italo Calvino
Enter the captivating world of Italo Calvino, where words transcend mere narratives, opening doors to a realm of profound symbolism and complex imagery. In Rome, at the Scuderie del Quirinale, over 400 artworks pay homage to Calvino’s mesmerizing literary creations.
Curated by Mario Barenghi and Electa editions, the exhibition commemorates Calvino’s 100th birth anniversary, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the magical universe of one of Italy’s most renowned storytellers. Born in Cuba in 1923, Calvino spent most of his life in Italy, weaving enchanting tales that continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
A comprehensive repertoire to step into Calvino’s world
Running until February 4, the exhibition not only showcases Calvino’s literary legacy but also celebrates his enduring ability to inspire individuals from all walks of life. As you approach the Scuderie del Quirinale, a mesmerizing light installation, “Palomar” by Giulio Paolini, sets the stage for a journey through Calvino’s imaginative universe.
To see a city, it is not enough to keep your eyes open. You must first discard everything that prevents you from seeing it – all received ideas and preconceived images.
Inside the exhibition, canvas paintings bring to life the abstract concepts and unique landscapes depicted in Calvino’s works. These visual interpretations offer a glimpse into the vibrant imagery that has captured the minds of countless readers, immersing them in the surreal cities of “Invisible Cities” and the whimsical tales of “Cosmicomics.”
I spent the first twenty-five years of my life (or thereabout) inside a landscape. Without ever getting out of it. I can never lose this landscape, because only what exists entirely within one’s memory is definitive.
