100 Nativity Scenes from Around the World
Christmas is a time filled with iconic symbols that signify the holiday season. Among them are the lights, the trees, the Santas, and of course, the nativity scenes. Just like every Christmas tree is unique, so are the nativity scenes that grace our homes and yards. But there is one display you absolutely cannot miss if you find yourself near Saint Peter’s Square in Rome – the 100 Presepi (or 100 Nativity Scenes) display under the Colonnade of St. Peter’s Square.
Starting from December 9th, you can marvel at 100 different nativity scenes from 17 countries around the world. This event is a true spectacle, regardless of your religious beliefs. The inauguration will take place on Friday, December 8th, at 4 pm.

The nativity scenes vary in settings, depicting scenes from the Middle East, rural Italy, Rome in the 1800s, and even near-modern-day Croatia. Some scenes are crafted by children, while others are intricate works of art. The variety in materials used, ranging from vinyl records to seashells, adds to the charm of the display.
The creativity and attention to detail in these nativity scenes are truly remarkable. Some displays even feature moving parts like running water and animatronics. The Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization’s 100 Presepi display is a must-see attraction to immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit while in Rome.
