Welcome to the CEPACS Golden Jubilee Assembly!
The Pan African Episcopal Committee for Social Communications (CEPACS) is thrilled to announce the publication of the final document from its historic Golden Jubilee assembly, held in vibrant Lagos, Nigeria, in November 2023.
At the heart of this unforgettable event was the presence of Dr. Paolo Ruffini, the esteemed Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication at the Vatican, accompanied by a distinguished group of eighty delegates. This group included Cardinals, Bishops, priests, religious leaders, and Africa’s regional communication officers, as well as local and international partners of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM).
Connecting through Communication
The meticulously crafted document captures the essence of the assembly, encompassing all presentations and resolutions made during this momentous occasion. CEPACS emphasized the crucial need for the Church in Africa to adapt to the ever-evolving communication landscape to effectively engage with the modern world.
Titled “Advancing and integrating Synodality in the works of the Church in Africa through Social Communication – CEPACS Golden Jubilee,” this 46-page document urges SECAM to strategize resource mobilization to support CEPACS’ essential mission.
Embracing a Synodal Approach
In today’s digital age, CEPACS emphasizes the importance of developing innovative strategies to harness modern communication tools for evangelization. Bishop Emmanuel Badejo, President of CEPACS, stressed the urgency for robust communication structures that align with Pope Francis’ vision for new evangelization strategies.
The document also calls for specialized training for Church media personnel, advocating for the use of digital platforms and social media to reach a wider audience, especially the youth. In essence, CEPACS envisions a communication structure deeply rooted in Africa’s unique needs for evangelization.
As the Church moves towards a synodal vision, CEPACS invites Church leaders and communication stakeholders to align their efforts with the synodal approach for effective pastoral communication planning.
Furthermore, CEPACS appeals to SECAM to actively share the outcomes of the assembly with Bishops across Africa, fostering a spirit of unity in communication apostolate.
Join us as we embark on a new era of communication excellence, inspired by the rich traditions of CEPACS and the enduring mission of the Church in Africa.
