Experience the Magic of Opera at the Baths of Caracalla Summer Festival!
Step back in time and immerse yourself in the world of opera at the stunning Baths of Caracalla in Rome. The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma is bringing the stage to life amidst ancient Roman ruins, offering a unique and unforgettable experience under the stars.
The Caracalla Festival 2024 invites you to enjoy over 60 evenings of performances from 3 June to 10 August. This multidisciplinary event showcases a diverse range of genres including opera, symphonic music, dance, theatre, cinema, and pop concerts.
From the 4,500-seat arena to the Teatro del Portico near the Temple of Jupiter, the festival pays tribute to the legendary composer Puccini on the centenary of his passing. Francesco Giambrone, the superintendent of Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, shares that after a record-breaking 115,000 admissions last year, this year’s festival has expanded with extra dates and a broader program.
“To commemorate the centenary of Puccini’s death, we have enlisted architect Massimiliano Fuksas to create bespoke installations for two iconic operas on the agenda – Tosca and Turandot,” Giambrone reveals. “These monumental performances will be set against the backdrop of the Teatro Grande in Caracalla, with Francesco Micheli as the music director.”
In addition to the opera highlights, the festival includes dance performances, symphonic concerts, and even a tribute to Walt Disney with a symphonic concert featuring music from Fantasia. Jazz enthusiasts will also find their groove with special jazz concerts and late-night sessions.
