This week, Lisbon plays host to representatives from some of the world’s most influential religions, including the Patriarch of Constantinople and the Imam of the Grand Mosque of Mecca, alongside eminent political figures from the EU, UN, and African Union, as well as former heads of state from European nations.
The gathering at KAICIID, the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, signifies the fusion of ‘Track 1.5 diplomacy,’ combining governmental talks with discourse among non-state actors.
Bridging Divides Through Dialogue
Established in 2011, KAICIID serves as a platform to foster collaboration among various faiths on issues ranging from peace initiatives to environmental concerns. This year’s theme, “Transformative Dialogue: Building Alliances for Peace in a Rapidly Changing World,” straddles the realms of ‘Peacebuilding,’ ‘Inclusive Cities,’ and ‘Sacred Ecology.’
A Pantheon of Voices
The conference boasts an illustrious lineup, featuring leaders from diverse world religions, such as the Chief Rabbi of Poland, representatives from Sikh, Buddhist, and Hindu communities, Catholic and Protestant figures, and the UN’s Bahá’í envoy. Political dignitaries include Mónica Ferro, Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa, and Ambassador Frans van Daele, with former heads of Italy, France, and Austria also in attendance.
Harnessing the Power of Dialogue
KAICIID’s forum aims to unleash the transformative essence of dialogue, addressing its impact on human rights, societal harmony, reconciliation, and environmental cooperation. Vatican News remains poised to capture these pivotal discussions in real-time. Stay tuned for updates.
