Discovering new horizons for the future of work and migrants
Pope Francis, known for his advocacy for fairness, justice, and dignity in all aspects of life, recently emphasized the urgent need for new models of action to ensure fair, just, and dignified work for everyone worldwide. In a meeting with participants from the Consultation “Care is Work, Work is Care”, organized by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, the Pope highlighted the importance of good policies for migrants to address key societal challenges.
Grateful for the innovative approaches put forth in the project “The Future of Work: Labour after Laudato sì”, the Pope commended the efforts of various stakeholders, including representatives of international organizations, Episcopal Conferences, trade unions, and grassroots groups. He urged them to continue advancing towards the overarching goal of creating a fair, just, and dignified work environment through the initiative “Care is Work, Work is Care: Building a Global Transformative Community”.
Touching on critical themes identified by the working group, Pope Francis delved into the significance of dignified work within mining industries, food security, migration, social justice, and a just ecological transition. He emphasized the need to address issues such as environmental impact, food insecurity, prejudices against migrants, social inequalities, and the interdependence between work and the environment.
As we navigate through these complex challenges, the Pope stressed the importance of collectively pooling our resources to interpret and respond effectively to the social context surrounding us. By fostering a culture of care, respect, and solidarity, we can strive towards creating a more inclusive and sustainable world for everyone.
