Are you ready to embark on a mission of synodality as a parish priest? Pope Francis calls on you to become missionaries of synodality with your fellow parish priests. The mandate was given during the International Meeting “Parish Priests for the Synod” held in Sacrofano from April 29 to May 2.
Stay tuned to the voices of parish priests
The Holy Father urges parish priests from around the world to lend their voices as they prepare for the Second Session of the Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. The meeting in Sacrofano was a crucial step, but more needs to be done to include more priests in the synodal process beyond just the efforts of the General Secretariat of the Synod and the Dicasteries of the Roman Curia.
“We must strive for greater participation in the synodal journey. It is the responsibility of each one of us to contribute to this mission,” emphasizes Pope Francis.
Becoming missionaries of synodality
Upon returning to your parish, Pope Francis urges you to engage with your fellow parish priests in discussions on renewing parish ministry in a synodal and missionary manner. Encourage dialogue and collaboration, whether in person or online, to foster a spirit of unity and mission among priests. Share the insights gained from these conversations with the Synod Secretariat and your local bishops.
“Inform your bishops and Episcopal Conferences about this task that the Pope has entrusted to you. Be proactive in spreading the message of synodality within your community,” advises the Holy Father.
Personal letter from the Pope
Lastly, Pope Francis mentions the personal letter he sent to all parish priests worldwide on May 2, outlining this mission of synodality among priests. Each parish priest will receive a copy of this letter to share within their own parish upon returning home.
