Pope Francis Calls for Peace and Fraternity After Attack on Refugee Camp
Recently, Pope Francis expressed his deep sorrow for the tragic attack on the Mugunga refugee camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In response to this heartbreaking event, he called upon political leaders to prioritize peace and fraternity in their actions.
The attack, which took place on Friday, 3 May, resulted in the loss of at least nine lives, most of whom were innocent children. Additionally, around 20 individuals were injured in the bombing, which has been attributed to M23 rebels by a spokesperson for the DRC government.
In a heartfelt telegram sent to Bishop Willy Nugumbi Ngengele of Goma, the Pope condemned the “cowardly attack” on the refugee camp, offering prayers for the victims and their families. He emphasized the need to reject violence as a means of conflict resolution, noting that the most vulnerable members of society are often the first to suffer.
