Get Ready for the Public Transport Strikes in Italy!
Italy is about to face a wave of strikes affecting public transport services, taxis, and airports in various cities on Tuesday, January 23, and Wednesday, January 24.
The strikes kick off with a 24-hour taxi driver strike in Rome on Tuesday, organized by the USB trade union, protesting against the increase in taxi licenses and alleged favoritism towards multinationals.
On Wednesday, a nationwide 24-hour strike by trade unions USB and Cobas will disrupt local public transport services across the country. The strike schedules will vary from city to city, focusing on issues such as contract renewals and workplace safety.
In Rome, the strike will impact services like buses, trams, subways, and light-rail operated by ATAC and Roma TPL from 08:30 to 17:00 and then from 20:00 till the end of the day, according to the city’s mobility website.
In Milan, public transport services by ATM are at risk from 08:45 to 15:00 and after 18:00. Similarly, in Naples, services will be affected from 08:30 to 17:00 and then from 20:00 onwards, as communicated on the ANM website.
Adding to the chaos, air traffic controllers across Italian airports will strike from 13:00 to 17:00 on Wednesday, causing possible flight disruptions. The strike is part of a nationwide movement by Filt-Gcil, UILT, and UIL trade unions, with additional strikes at airports in Bologna, Brindisi, and Verona during the same time slot.
