Pope Francis to Visit Trieste for Italian Catholic Social Week
Pope Francis is set to make a special visit to Trieste on July 7th as part of the Italian Catholic Social Week. This event will bring together the Pope, migrants, and marginalized individuals for a meaningful dialogue.

Bishop Enrico Trevisi recently unveiled details of Pope Francis’ upcoming visit to Trieste during the 50th Italian Catholic Social Week. The event is themed “At the heart of democracy: Participation between history and future” and will take place from July 3-7, 2024.
Pope Francis’ Schedule in Trieste
Upon his arrival in Trieste at the Generali Convention Center in the Old Port, Pope Francis will be greeted by various civil and religious figures, including Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi. The Pope will engage in discussions with attendees of the Catholic Social Week, representatives from other religious groups, and a diverse group of migrants and individuals with disabilities.
Following these meetings, Pope Francis will lead a Mass and the recitation of the Angelus at Unity Square before departing for the Vatican around 12:30 PM.
Guest of Honor
The Italian Catholic Social Week will feature President Sergio Mattarella on July 3, preceding the Pope’s visit. Over a thousand delegates are expected to participate in discussions revolving around citizen participation in democratic processes.
Archbishop Giuseppe Baturi emphasized the significance of Pope Francis and President Mattarella’s presence at the event, stressing the Catholic community’s role in addressing societal challenges.
Addressing Migration Issues
Bishop Trevisi emphasized the importance of welcoming vulnerable populations amidst discussions of democracy and the common good. He highlighted Trieste’s location on the Balkan route, underscoring the city’s responsibility in providing dignified accommodation for migrants.
He expressed hopes for resolving the inadequate living conditions currently experienced by migrants near the city’s railway station, echoing Pope Francis’ call for compassionate reception.
